About Barrie Health Facility

Barrie Health Facility is a state of the art College of Physicians and Surgeons certified outpatient facility for cataract procedures located in the South end of Barrie. Barrie Health Facility, in partnership with Royal Victoria Hospital, has reduced cataract wait times for patients. Adding additional Operating rooms will allow us to complete more cataract procedures, continue to reduce wait times and take on other elective procedures.

Barrie Health Facility is one of our eight surgical centres and was developed by Dr. Fouad Tayfour.

In 2023 Barrie Health Facility partnered with Royal Victoria hospital to help reduce cataract wait times by transferring OHIP cataract procedures out of the hospital to Barrie Health Facility.  This has allowed for more surgical capacity while reducing cataract wait times.

Windsor Surgical Centre (WSC), our affiliate center was the first centre to partner with Hospitals to tackle the long cataract wait times due to the pandemic.   During the pandemic WSC partnered with Windsor Regional Hospital to develop a strategy that would free up hospital resources and clear the back log of non-elective procedures, specifically cataracts. As a result, patient wait times were significantly reduced.  has set the stage for other regions to follow, and their model is currently being used in other jurisdictions.

Our caring doctors and staff work very closely with your own Optometrist to ensure that the highest standard of care is provided as you consider refractive or intraocular eye surgery. Our co-management approach allows the eye care professional you trust to remain part of this life-changing experience, each step of the way.
